The Alaska Permaculture crew recently put on their very first permablitz – with hugelkultur beds, sheet mulching, keyhole bed, food forest – and salmon for lunch!
We recognised the house by a *massive* pile of mulch lying on the pavement. Meanwhile, in the backyard an enthusiastic gang of blitzers were sharing their experiences with trees. For some this was limited to climbing and hugging.

With the help of Pooja, Natacha, Den and three of Mei’s own children, trenches were dug from the tap point to each garden bed and 13mm polypipe set down, ready for the weeper hoses.
The weather gods gifted us with a beautifully sunny winter day that allowed the troops to get into action bright eyed and full of smiles, concluding with my favourite thing of all, PLANTING! And a group photo of course!
Designers Chris and Ben decided on a low maintenance gardening paradise for this busy young family, complete with fruit trees as well as some flowers, herbs and apple-crate wicking-beds for vegies.
Our lovely host Tarius is a skilled gardener and runs the lush kitchen garden at Altona Meadows, but sadly had little time for her own garden since they moved into the rental property.

At this blitz at St Gregory the Great Primary School we made and installed four wicking beds and renovated an existing wicking bed that wasn’t working due to leakage
