On a sunny Spring day, volunteers, caterers and family members pitched in to transform Jim’s family’ gardens into a more productive space – with a pond, wicking and raised garden beds, espaliers and more!
The sun was out, the mattocks were swinging and the soil was delivered. The day of Sandy’s Permablitz offered perfect conditions for yet another poor-looking kikuyu lawn to be ripped out and replaced with productive garden beds.
It was a day that featured rain, hail, showers and sunshine – as well as lots of smiles, laughter and enjoyment from the 35 or so blitzers that joined us to transform this Upwey garden.
We learned about planting, composting and pruning, made new friends and even grew a greater understanding in what is involved in establishing a food forest!
The Montmorency blitz was a food-fuelled day of hugelkultur, eating, wicking beds, eating, orchard planting, eating, chicken coop upgrading and eating. And eating!
