FAIR FOOD – Film screening & panel discussion
Date(s) - February 21, 2017
Time - 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
This is a third-party event not organised by Permablitz. We've added it because we reckon it looks pretty good!
Location - The Oratory @ Abbotsford Convent
Permablitz Melbourne and Permaculture Victoria are proud to present Fair Food: The Documentary.
Fair Food is Australia’s first feature-length documentary that tells the story of our farmers, social entrepreneurs and communities pioneering new approaches to food production, marketing and distribution. Fair Food reveals a new movement that’s gathering momentum, led by biodiverse family farmers, independent food enterprises, and community and individual food buyers around the country. These fair food pioneers are counteracting a system that’s broken – where two supermarkets control 75-80% of the grocery market, cheap imports undercut local producers and farmers are walking off the land in droves.
If you would like to learn more about the importance of having access to local food, fairly produced, and the issues facing our local producers, then grab your ticket now. The choices we all make about the food we grow, buy and eat can have a huge impact on the kind of environment we want to have, on how animals are treated and on how we care for and support each other.
The screening of Fair Food will be followed by a special guest panel who will delve into issues raised in the film. Guest speakers are Nick Rose (Sustain: The Australian Fook Network), Serenity Hill (Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance and Open Food Network), Pippa French (3000 acres), Sophia Christoe (Melbourne Farmers Markets) and Paul Miragliotta (Days Walk Farm and Farmer Incubator).
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Official website and trailer: http://www.justfoodfilms.com/.
TICKETS: Pre-purchased tickets available via Eventbrite. Adult $15 | Concession $10 | Family (2 adults + 2 children) $30. Tickets available at the door (cash only): Adult $20 | Concession $15 | Family (2 adults + 2 children) $40.
All net proceeds from the evening will go to the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance to support their work towards building a food system in which people have the opportunity to choose, create and manage their food supply from paddock to plate.
