Introduction to Beekeeping Course / Workshop
Date(s) - October 8, 2017
Time - 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
This is a third-party event not organised by Permablitz. We've added it because we reckon it looks pretty good!
Getting started in beekeeping? Do you want to improve pollination in your area and protect our honeybees and native pollinators?
Why not harvest your own honey?
Want to get started in bees and don’t know who to turn to, what equipment to buy, where to get bees from, or how to protect your bees from pests like the small hive beetle?
Maybe you just want to find out if you actually like being near bees before you invest money in your planned hobby, or perhaps you’ve inherited a hive.
Whatever the reason, now’s your chance for an interesting day experience.
Learning Aims
Before starting with bees it is highly recommended that you undertake an introduction course.
This beekeeping course is suitable for those who are interested in the fundamentals of various methods of beekeeping.
Learning Outcomes
We undertake a 6 hour introduction beekeeping workshop to enable you to understand the principles of beekeeping and honey production. You’ll learn how to create and maintain beehives as well as to harvest your own honey and beeswax.
We run our workshops at beautiful Vue at Jindivick, approximately 1 hour east of Melbourne.

Minimum Age: We suggest an age of 16 and above for our adult courses.
What to wear: for the practical part of the day you will need to wear long pants, long sleeves and closed shoes. We will be providing veils/jackets and gloves.
Perfume: Bees are sensitive to smell, please refrain from wearing strong smelling perfumes/aftershaves.
Parking: There is plenty of parking space available.
Accommodation: One private queen bedroom with ensuite and deck is available onsite. Booking is essential. Please visit: http://www.vueatjindivick.com/rooms–rates.html
Bee stings: If you know that you’re severely allergic to bees you would be welcome to attend our classroom sessions, however we would not recommend taking part of the practical hands on session. Bees have a mind of their own, we take precautions to reduce the risk of stings—however we can’t guarantee your safety if you have an allergy.
Mentoring: In addition to the hands on courses we provide, we also provide hive leases (including training), onsite maintenance and training packs.
