We said goodbye recently to Andrew Campbell-Fraser who has designed and facilitated several great permablitzes in the last 12 months. Fortuitously, he moved to Perth in the same week that a new permablitz network was launched there.
Here's Andrew at the Stewart Lodge permablitz last year.
See you mate, and thanks for contributing a lot of your time and passion to the permablitz network!
[ Back in October there was a permablitz at Stewart Lodge Supported Residential Service in Brunswick. It was a great day! Check out the photos. I've been back lately and the results are fantastic! They are now looking for some help maintaining it, which would be a very rewarding project for any one who is interested... ]
Regular Volunteers Needed- Stewart Lodge Permaculture Garden
Stewart Lodge is a Supported Residential Service in Brunswick, accommodating 80 men and women living with mental illness, physical or intellectual disability, or acquired brain injury.
· Resident involvement in the garden improves their physical and mental health and wellbeing
· All the produce from the garden is used by the Cooks in healthy meals
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to help maintain the garden and to help engage the residents with the garden. Volunteers require no experience, just a friendly attitude and a willingness to interact with people from marginalized backgrounds. Flexible days/hours.
About the project, residents have said:
“ It’s good meeting and working with volunteers. It’s beautiful. It makes me feel better, it’s my hobby. I like the range of food grown.”
“There’s activities. Growing vegetables. People gathering together, having a good time, it’s good to see people participating all together.”
"Gardening is civil and social, but it wants the vigor and freedom of the forest and the outlaw."
~Henry David Thoreau
We love our food gardens to have the freedom and vigor of the forest, food forests. So lets get wild this weekend and blitz with the spirit of the vigilante... We've got three coming up for you. In this newsletter we've also got a permaculture movie star, fungi in the gulf, and a hat tip to those that have been keeping this city feeding us. Read on...
Good news, Permablitz Perth is to be launched at this event!
A family friendly day of creativity & community building. Become less of a consumer & more of a creator. All day workshops include brewing beer, making sourdough, a raw food workshop, organic gardening talks, eco-woodwork, pickling & preserving, deep ecology talk and many more. They'll be market stalls, kids activities, great food and music on the day. Also get behind Transition Towns Perth, join a local Permaculture group near you and sign up for the launch of Permablitz Perth to win the first blitz atyour place.
Welcome to Permablitz Melbourne - this site has been set up to help people get together and have fun learning about, designing and implementing suburban permaculture systems. Our focus is edible gardens, and our ultimate aim is to make the suburbs edible enough such that should food become unaffordable, we don’t even notice. See above for the next permablitz and feel free to submit your own onto the calendar. Check out photos of blitzes 1-6 here, and photos of more recent blitzes in our gallery.
"Permaculture activism is now ready to reclaim Australian suburban landscapes and culture as the Energy Descent future of resource scarcity and climatic instability turns consumerist culture to compost. Permablitz is on the frontline."
David Holmgren, co-originator or the permaculture concept
