comin’ up Sunday 17th Sept
10am till ????

Luscious Lane neighbourhood food garden,
North Fitzroy

Luscious Lane is a shared food garden tucked away in an inner urban backyard accessed via the end of a laneway...

7 of us have been slowly building up soil and creating a food garden after digging up cement (been there 60yrs) and bluestone(100yrs) that had been covering the land in its previous incarnations.

We love it that one of our gardeners also teaches foodgrowing & cooking to kids from the North Fitzroy Community School who have a mini-plot here.

Spring is sprouting and we’re ready for the next mega-blitz, so RSVP ASAP to join in the fun

wear closed shoes, old clothes and bring your fave snacks/drinks, gardening gloves,hat, sunnies, water, sunscreen, handtools, (see below) wheelbarrow, and other bits and pieces mentioned below if you have them

We'll be:

* creating a to-scale map of the garden (for seasonal planning)

* building a 3-bay compost system

* learning from folk skilled in soil, composting, worm farming and more.

* edging vege beds with recycled timber (and covering corrugated iron edging w rubber – byo old bike tyres)

* creating an archway trellis (bendable, weavable materials welcome) for the kiwifruit vines we hope to plant on the day in one of the two large tubs either side of the sunny driveway entry path

* planting the seedlings we're currently propogating,

* spreading some mulch around,

* more propagating?

* putting together a sitting bench or two
(does anyone have a belt sander? circular saw? drill? bolts?)

and if anyone can bring curvy ol' metal flyscreens
that could become trellises, that'd be great too.

*maybe some scarecrow making?
(bring old broom handles, hat, funky coloured clothing, non-soggy stuffing)

and putting up some shadecloth in a corner over
the bench we'll make.

*bring drums for barefoot singing and raindancing in the thyme/chamomile circle afterwards to celebrate another episode in the urban foodgrowing revolution.

green hugs to y’all ;)
