Holmes St estate is a public housing high rise for people 55 years and over. A beautiful community garden was completed at Holmes St a year ago including raised garden beds, a pond, an orchard and a gazebo - built by Garden of Eden with funding from Department of Human Services.
We want to hold a permablitz at Holmes St to assist with some of the tasks that the older gardeners find too difficult - weeding in common areas, compost bay maintenance. Expertise in fruit tree maintenance would also be appreciated. We can also do some mulching and a general tidy up. We might also create some more ground level beds to enable some of the more agile residents of the estate to get into gardening.
Cultivating Community will provide a BBQ lunch but please feel free to bring food and drink, seeds, seedlings, cuttings etc and garden tools, friends, family - or just yourself. A great chance to meet some wonderful older residents of Northcote who have some amazing stories to share!
