There are no less than 21 patron saints of gardeners and farmers implying God puts a lot of stock in their activities. Let's see how that stacks up against some other prominent occupations...
Speaking religion, why has no one ever worshiped a broad bean god? They are one of the most productive plants in the garden, are packed full of protein, are the foundation of falafel, are great fresh or stir fried or as a dip. They grow through winter. And they capture nitrogen in the soil. In short they are magnificent! Therefore we give you a god of our own creation: Lord Fava, the best and only broad bean god to have ever existed. He is great and powerful. Fear him. And feed with well aged compost.
They are also only legume reputed to be a 'natural viagra'. Get sexy with some broad bean mush.

wonderous facts about broad beans.

~~~ Land for Veggies blitz ~~~
Swales, compost tea and permablitzing. Marie Antoinette has posted and excellent article about earthworking and other efforts on some small acreage over at Land for Vegie blog. Check out the big machines at
Congratulations to K. Yeats of Brunswick East who was our 2000th subscriber and won a copy of Future Scenarios: How Communities Can Adapt to Peak Oil and Climate Change by David Holmgren, permaculture co-originator. As a twist of fate, she had once done me a favour as a total stranger! Freaky.
See you at a blitz...
